The History of the Mission

The Lord of the Mission, guided and inspired Rev. J.M. Jayasingh during the middle of June 1990, when he went to pump drinking water, where he met a Hindu Sanyasi, who wanted to know about Christ. Months passed and finally he had a vision in which the Holy Spirit spoke to him from Luke 4:18-19. He replied, he is prepared to do anything the Lord wants him to do, provided he gets an assurance, who will support him.

This vision was on the early hours of September 8th 1991. That was a Sunday and while attending the Sunday morning worship at the Episcopal Church in Edinburgh, the Pastor preached from Ps.23:1 – That evening he attended the Baptist Church in Edinburgh and on that day the Pastor spoke from Ps.121:2 “The help comes from the one who created the heaven and earth”. His prayer was answered. Having prayed on that night, he decided to continue in the field of evangelism.

Having returned back from his studies, Rev. J.M. Jayasingh, Jayamathy his wife and their children Timothy and Jubilee (who were doing their schooling) prayed together and decided to begin the ministry on 10th November 1991. Their only resource was the word of God – Psalm 121:2.

The ministry started among the fishermen community in Nadukuppam near the Marina Beach and the slum-dwellers along the Adyar river bank. As friends began to make enquiry of what Rev. Jayasingh is involved they also started giving support. Hence he felt it should be organized and named the ministry as "Life in Christ Ministries" with the motto “Proclaim Christ in Word and Deed”. The mission was registered under the Trust Act as “Public Religious Charitable Trust”.
