Ministry at Nadukuppam - Chennai

Ministry at Chennai- Nadukuupam, Triplicane

The ministry in Chennai was started in Nadukuppam among the fishermen community (behind The Queen Marys college, Chennai) in the year 1991. Every Sunday after attending the worship service at the St. Georges Cathedral, Chennai, Rev. Jayasingh would set off to evangelistic work in Nadukuppkam. Being a very sensitive area he went there wearing the cassock. In the first two houses that he visited they refused to let him in. In the third house he has received well. Making use of the opportunity, Rev. Jayasingh shared the love of Jesus and prayed with them. It was the house of Shanmugam and Chitra.

The next week they were expecting Rev. Jayasingh and they offered lunch. Every Sunday, few people would come to Shanmugams house to hear the word of God or just to be prayed over. Under the leadership of Late Rev. Jayamathy a Bible class for children was conducted in the house of Mrs. & Mr. Kanagaraj. Rani, his wife sold breakfast for her living. People in that area wanted cash, or clothes, but they were told that we only can give Jesus Christ and nothing else.

One Saturday while the Bible class was going on there was a big clash between two groups, it was so frightening but God was with us and they came back home safely.

Every Sunday, we had Bible study and prayer in Mr. Shanmugam’ s house. On one such Sunday as Rev. Jayasingh was entering Mr. Shanmugams house, his wife said, “Pastor did you notice my in- law covered in blanket, he is running high temperature. He wanted to murder you today because you are speaking about Jesus. Now he is unable to get up and walk”. Rev. Jayasingh prayed for him too.

The Shanmugams visited their relatives in Thiruvatyur in North Chennai and shared with them the love of Jesus and also told them the change of heart and the peace that they experience. This was not liked by the relatives as well as they community.

The ministry there was followed up by Rev. S. Theraj who was a bachelor. He would go there twice a week and proclaim the love of Jesus. On Saturday evening, he would assist late Rev. Jayamathy in the Children Bible class.

In the year 1996, there was a need for trained maids who could help the elderly in their homes. So, LCM started a training programme for the young girls from Nadukuppam. Late Mr. John Pannerselvam encouraged the program and under the leadership Late Rev. Jayamathy, the program turned out to be a huge success. it was a very successful program. Unfortunately, due to lack of space and funds this program had to be called off.

The ministry was expanded and female evangelists were appointed to proclaim the gospel in the slum areas of Padi Pudur Nagar, Mogapair and also in the villages of Poonamalee.

The mission is concentrating in the following areas. Canal Bank Road, Mallipoo Nagar, Semmenchery, Nochikuppam and in area near Foreshore estate. We encourage all believers to go to the nearby organised Churches.
